My Experience at B/SPOKE: Trying Something New
I’ve been a fan of B/SPOKE since 2019 when I started taking classes at their Federal St. location. I got hooked on their R/DE (signature spin class) thanks to the amazing instructors who always radiate positivity and energy. But this time, I decided to step outside my comfort zone and try something different—Strength: Full Body with Mooch.
The Arrival: Checking In and Getting Set Up
When I arrived at the South Boston studio, check-in was a breeze. The friendly front desk staff asked for my name and class, then reminded me which mat I had reserved. After that, I made my way upstairs to the lockers, which don’t require a separate lock (yay for built-in locks!). I stashed my stuff and headed into The Lab, which is where the magic happens for their strength classes.
The studio had numbered mats on the floor, so I quickly found mine. Mooch, the instructor, was already in the room letting everyone know what equipment we’d need for the class. For this workout, we needed a set of mid-weight and heavy dumbbells, which were easy to grab from the racks lining the room.
The Workout: Full Body Strength with Mooch
The next 45 minutes flew by. Between the dim lighting, the pumping music, and Mooch’s infectious energy, I was fully immersed in the workout. Mooch demoed all the movements either beforehand or during the workout, which made it easy to follow along, even if I was trying something new. I never felt lost or confused, which is a huge relief when you’re stepping out of your usual routine.
As the name suggests, this was definitely a full body workout. We moved through exercises that targeted everything—legs, core, arms—you name it. The workout was challenging, but I loved that it was scalable for any fitness level. Whether you’re a beginner or more experienced, you can modify the movements or push yourself to the next level.
The Vibe: High-Energy and Fun
What really stood out about this class was the atmosphere. The music was loud, the lighting was just the right amount of dim, and Mooch kept the energy up with constant encouragement. It was one of those workouts where you’re so into the moment that time flies by, and before you know it, you’ve completed an intense full-body session.
